Karen started as a child, riding in a professional's show jumping yard, who also took in problem horses.
Seeing her potential as a rider, he gave her the opportunity to train on many horses with issues such as rearing, bucking and bolting, and to turn them around.
She was also assisting in breaking horses. By the age of 13 years, she was selected to ride for her Pony Club team riding a horse with temprement issues. At the regional finals, they won beating some of the best International pony and rider combinations in the country, and went on to qualify for the National Champions at Hickstead and Stoneleigh. She went on to win many Foxhunters and competing up to open level and recieved training from such greats as George Morris, Olympic Coach for the U.S.A.
