Grand Prix Lusitano stallion, Pelicano has won some of the highest levels in Spain at P.S.G, Int.1, Grand Prix and Kur beating other breeds and Olympic riders. He was selected twice for Spanish Olympic Team Training for both Small Tour Level and Big Tour Level in 2009 with Olympic coach Jean Bemelmans. Pelicano was also selected in the U.K to demonstrate on the Laura Becholsteimer clinic, on training a Grand Prix horse. Laura commented what a super horse he was, that she would award his canter pirouette a nine, thought his changes were all straight and correct, and his passage and piaffe were incrediblably expressive. She also commented that is was impossible to see how a horse could give more to his rider , than Pelicano gave to Karen.
When coming to the UK, to Elm Farm Stud, he started on his breeding programme and started competing in the UK where he was winning and doing very at well premier league competitions in the higher levels which qualified him for the National Championships at Stoneleigh. He also qualified for the waiting list for team selection.
Pelicano was sold in 2015 back to Spain where he is spending the rest of his days at stud. His semen is available for export.
Karen is a big believer in promoting Iberian horses in the dressage world in the UK. She was honoured to be asked to do a demonstration and clinic with Olympic Gold medalist, Laura Bechtolsheimer (Tomlinson) She took horses from level of Novice to Grand Prix. Karen and Pelicano were asked to represent the Grand Prix horse to show all the movements at her demonstration. She was very complimentary about Pelicano. Some of her comments were she would award a nine for his canter pirouttes, going through all the two and one time changes, said they were all straigh and correct. His piaffe and passage were incredibly expressive and it was difficult to see how much a horse could give to his rider and what a super horse he was. Coming from her was an honour and a credit to his breeding.
